Over the carnage rose a prophetic voice,
"Be not disheartened, affection shall solve the problems of freedom yet."
Monday May 30th | 1pm to 5pm | Memorial Day
Let’s celebrate the 203rd birthday of one of America’s major prophetic voices with a festive reading of his epic 52-part poem, “The Compassionators” (aka “Song of Myself”)—and give our humanity a pep talk!
There will be opportunities during the reading to draw and paint, to dance and make music, or simply stretch out and enjoy Whitman’s wild words and images in creative community. Everyone is invited to take a turn reading. This epic poem party could last up to 5 hours, including breaks for food and play.
We’ll gather on the grass and grand porch of The Gladstone. You are welcome to come for all or part of this improvisational afternoon.
Bring your mind, heart, and soul…and don’t forget your body electric! Bring a lawn chair or blanket. Bring friends. Bring food and drink to share!
This event is offered in the spirit of mutual generosity. Financial Contributions From Those Who Can Afford It Make Our Work Possible!
