This month we invite you to consider the ties that moor you…to yourself and others…to situations and roles…to nature…to literally anything and everything. These myriad connections create the sense of belonging.
The dynamic of closeness and alienation in human belonging is a unifying theme for Stephen and me, in our home and work lives. Right after we moved in together we began facilitating gatherings in our living room, to nurture community resilience amid mounting environmental devastation. Within four months a novel virus upended the world, making it apparent that resilience is tenuous without a strong sense of belonging.
Our society suffers from a pandemic of relational disconnect…from ourselves, from each other, from the natural world…from so many things that matter most. Belonging has become the primary lens through which Stephen and I view and engage with the world. My work at Creative Catalyst offers a means to map, navigate, and tend the ecosystem of belonging. Stephen’s work invites artistic inquiry and communication with human and non-human realms to care for the ties that bind and create our lives.
We hope you’ll find something here that supports your own relationship with what matters most. Check out our June events at the bottom of the page!
